Fair Trade Music International welcomes the American Music Licensing Collective (AMLC) as a Fair Trade Music partner organization with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The AMLC is currently working to be designated as the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC) in the United States. If successful, it will be responsible for collecting digital mechanical revenue generated by the world’s music publishers and songwriters in the US.
The AMLC seeks to ensure that music creators get paid fairly for digital mechanical revenue generated by digital platforms. It is comprised of a board of directors with extensive knowledge about music publishing, mechanical license administration, big data, mapping and matching technology, payment processing, copyright ownership identification, conflict resolution, education, law, songwriting and more. The board is made up of songwriters, artists, music publishers, musicians, composers and technologists, some of whom are CIAM Exco members.
The MoU between Fair Trade Music International and AMLC further advances the adoption of Fair Trade Music principles of fairness, sustainability and transparency in the music ecosystem.
